FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Answers to common questions about booking, visits, endoscopy and liver or digestive conditions.
How do I book an appointment?
You can message on WhatsApp (0332-0420421 or 0334-0421313), call or send an SMS to 0311-4444600, or send the appointment request form. We will reply with the available days and times.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Please bring earlier reports (blood tests, ultrasound, endoscopy or colonoscopy reports, hospital discharge papers), a list of all your medicines including herbal products and supplements, your national ID, and any referral note. Writing your questions down beforehand is also helpful.
What happens during a gastroenterology consultation?
The doctor listens to your symptoms and history, reviews your reports, examines you, explains the likely causes, and discusses whether any tests, medicines, lifestyle changes or procedures are needed. You are welcome to ask questions.
Are consultations free for Zakat-eligible patients?
Yes. Clinic examination is free for Zakat-eligible patients. Please let us know when you get in touch so that this can be arranged respectfully. Tests and procedures are separate.
Where are the clinics and what are the timings?
Dr Usman Naeem sees patients at Aadil Hospital, Main Boulevard, DHA Lahore (Monday to Friday 7 pm to 9 pm, Saturday 4 pm to 6 pm, Sunday closed; by appointment only) and at Doctors Hospital and Medical Center, Lahore (Canal Road, Block G-1, Johar Town; Wednesday from 2 pm onwards, consultation by appointment only). Please see the clinic and contact page, and confirm your slot with the clinic before you travel. Consultation fees are confirmed by the clinic when you book.
Which procedures are available at which location?
All procedures are available at both Aadil Hospital (DHA) and Doctors Hospital and Medical Center (Johar Town): ERCP, bile duct stone extraction, biliary, oesophageal and duodenal stenting, oesophageal variceal band ligation, upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, and other diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. Please book an appointment before visiting.
Do you offer online consultations?
Yes. Online consultations are offered. Request one through WhatsApp or the appointment request form, and the clinic will confirm the time and how the call will work. A request is not a confirmed booking until the clinic confirms.
When should I see a gastroenterologist?
Consider an appointment for heartburn or stomach pain that keeps coming back, difficulty swallowing, unexplained weight loss, long-lasting bloating or change in bowel habit, blood in the stool, anaemia, abnormal liver tests, fatty liver, hepatitis B or C, yellow eyes, or if a doctor has advised endoscopy or colonoscopy. Emergency symptoms such as vomiting blood or black stools need hospital care straight away.
Is an endoscopy painful or safe?
Most people tolerate upper endoscopy well, often with throat spray or sedation, and a colonoscopy with sedation is usually comfortable. Serious complications are uncommon but possible, such as bleeding or a tear in the bowel wall. Your doctor will explain the benefits and risks before the procedure.
How do I prepare for a colonoscopy?
The most important part is cleaning the bowel with the laxative preparation exactly as instructed. You will also be told what to eat and drink in the day before. Tell the team about blood thinners, diabetes medicines and iron tablets in advance.
Should I stop my medicines before an endoscopy?
Please do not stop any medicine on your own. Some, such as blood thinners and diabetes medicines (especially insulin), may need to be adjusted. Ask the clinic when you book.
Can fatty liver be reversed?
In many people, early fatty liver can improve with sustained weight loss, a healthier diet, regular exercise and good control of diabetes and cholesterol. If scarring has developed it may not fully reverse, but the same steps can still help prevent it from getting worse. Results differ from person to person.
Can hepatitis C be cured?
Yes. Modern antiviral tablets, usually taken for 8 to 12 weeks, cure the great majority of people when taken as prescribed. A blood test confirms the cure afterwards. A doctor needs to check your liver and the right treatment first.
Can hepatitis B be cured?
Hepatitis B is usually controlled rather than completely cured. Not everyone needs treatment straight away, but regular monitoring is important, and antiviral medicines can protect the liver when needed. Vaccination prevents infection.
Do I need H. pylori treatment if I have no symptoms?
Treatment is generally advised when H. pylori is found, because it can cause ulcers and raises the long-term risk of stomach cancer. Your doctor will advise you, taking your history into account.
Can you diagnose or prescribe by WhatsApp, SMS or the website form?
No. Diagnosis and prescriptions need a proper consultation. Please use messages only to book or ask about appointments, and do not send reports or medical details through the website form. If you wish to share reports before a visit, ask the clinic how to do so.
